Who We Are

The focus of the Black Insurance Industry Collective™ (BIIC®) is to accelerate the advancement of Black professionals with the end goal of increasing the representation of Black leaders at the mid-to-executive level in the insurance industry. Our vision is to support the development of Black talent in the insurance industry by providing educational opportunities, networking, and training opportunities.

Our Story

In 2020, a diverse group of insurance industry leaders came together to address the underrepresentation of people of color in the field. This collaboration led to the formation of a working group of 30 executives who identified key needs and objectives. Their efforts resulted in the creation of the Black Insurance Industry Collective (BIIC), the first industry-driven initiative dedicated to fostering the growth and advancement of Black professionals while increasing diverse leadership at the executive level. Through collaboration, research, and benchmarking, BIIC refined its vision into three core pillars:

  • Leadership Development – Empowering professionals through strategic partnerships, DEI roundtables, webinars, and the BIIC Executive Leadership Program with Darden Executive Leadership & Lifelong Learning. In 2023, BIIC was honored with the Diversity and Inclusion Industry Partner Award.

  • Mentorship and Sponsorship – Creating meaningful connections between emerging professionals and senior leaders to support career development and advancement.

  • Networking – Providing opportunities for professionals to engage with peers, executives, and industry influencers, fostering collaboration and career growth.

BIIC is a 501(c)(6), a nonprofit affiliated with The Institutes. BIIC is committed to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment by addressing the unique experiences and challenges professionals face, with a strong focus on retention, growth, and leadership development.
